Breeding purebred cats is an expensive hobby, hardly ever bringing financial benefit. This is especially true for a small cattery where cats are fully integrated into the family and not caged, or isolated. Purchasing a breeding female, or two (often from overseas) is extremely expensive; so is paying fees for a stud male. The cost of maintaining multiple cat household, vet bills, genetic or other testing, food, costs of registration papers, costs of attending ‘cat shows’ – all cost A LOT of money.
